Catherine Throckmorton
(Abt 1512 - 26 Mar 1563)
Biography
Little about Catherine Throckmorton's birth or childhood is "proven;" however, it is known that she came from the aristocratic Tudor-era Throckmorton (not Throgmorton, a misspelling) family with branches in Warwickshire and Gloucestershire, England, and that she married Sir Robert Chester, b: 1510, in 1532 in his native Hertfordshire, England, when both were around 20 years old.
Although many family genealogies state that her parents were Sir John Throckmorton and his wife, Ann (Scargill) Morton, they lived at least a generation "too early" for Catherine's birth, marriage and child-bearing years. The most-plausible pedigree is that she was the daughter of Sir John and Ann's son, Sir Christopher Throckmorton, b: 1466 in Corse Court, near Staunton, Gloucestershire, and his wife, Mary-Joan (Harley) Throckmorton b: ca. 1470 in Hertfordshire. That her mother was from the same county as her future husband is a good indication that the families knew each other; both were favored by Tudor Kings Henry VII and his son, Henry VIII. Sir Robert who was knighted at Wilton by Edward VI in 1552, m. Katherine, daughter of Christopher Throckmorton, Esq. of Corse Court, Gloucestershire..."
Thus, it is most-likely that Catherine Throckmorton was born around 1512 in Corse Court, Corse, near Staunton, Gloucestershire, England. She was her mother's last child. Catherine was raised between Gloucestershire and her mother's lands near Hertford (about 120 miles east of Gloucester). When she was about 20 years old, in 1532, she married 22-year old Sir Robert Chester in Hertford, England.
The couple lived in Royston, Hertfordshire, England and had 6 children: Sir Robert Chester on Geni.com Jaynes & Peterson on RootsWeb - Robert Chester Has some birth years wrong.
