Marjorie "Margery, Margerye" Raynor

(1500 - 1588)

== Biography ==
Although at least 50 Family Trees available online list Marjorie Raynor (aka Margery Rayner) in their genealogies, I could only find one that cites credible local sources; most derive from Ancestry.com. Nonetheless, many say she was born the daughter of Robert Raynor of Bamletts Farm, near Doddington, in Kent, England. Her birth year is most-often cited as 1500, which would have made her 22 at her marriage to James Filmer, Esq., of the neighboring village of East Sutton, Kent, in 1522. A few genealogies say she was born ca. 1480 but this is unlikely as she is also credited with having 11 children with her husband James, something virtually impossible for a woman of her day, starting at 42 years old. She is also credited with living until 1588, again strongly supporting her being born no earlier than 1500. She was buried in the church at Otterden, Kent.
Marjorie Raynor and James Filmer, Esq. married in 1522 in her native village of Doddington, Maidstone District, Kent, just 3 miles from Otterden and 9 miles from East Sutton. After their marriage, the Filmers set up housekeeping in the hamlet of Payden Street, two miles from Doddington, in Wychling Parish. All of their children were christened at St. Margaret Church, Wychling.[http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=8138003&id=I0838 Stone-Messer Family Tree]
Marjorie and James Filmer had the following 11 children:[http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=norvanl&id=I697736 Hardin Clay Roots #2 Tree]

Marjorie Raynor Filmer, already a grandmother, lost her husband in 1571 when he was 93 years old. It is said she first lived with her oldest son, George Filmer, in East Sutton. After he died in 1582, apparently she went to live with her youngest son, Reginald (Raynold), in nearby Wychling. She died at his manor in Wychling in 1588 at the venerable age of 88 years old and was buried in the church in Otterden.[http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=repgmaxey&id=I073882 Edward Maxey Descendants and More Tree]
