== Biography ==
}Sir Edward Guildford was the eldest son of Sir Richard Guildford (c. 1450–1506) and his first wife, Anne, daughter of John Pympe of Kent. His career was intertwined with that of his half-brother Sir Henry Guildford, born of Sir Richard's second marriage, to Joan, daughter of Sir William Vaux of Harrowden; both were intimate friends of Henry VIII and active in royal service.
He m.(1) bef 1496 Eleanor, daughter of Thomas West, eighth Baron West and ninth Baron de la Warr, 1s 1da and (2) Joan, daughter of Stephen Pitlesden, was childless.
From 1493 to 1506 Edward Guildford and his father were joint masters of the royal armoury. On his Father's death he inherited his properties at Halden and Hemstead, Kent. When Edmund Dudley was attainted and executed in 1510, Guildford was given four of his manors in Lincolnshire and named guardian of his son John Dudley. By 1526 Guildford had married his daughter, Jane, to his ward.
Sir Edward died at Leeds castle, 4 June 1534. Guildford's son had predeceased him leaving no children, so the inheritance was disputed between Guildford's daughter, Jane, and his nephew John Guildford, the closest male heir.
