== Biography ==Eleanor Holand was the illegitimate daughter of [[Holland-587|Edmund Holland]], 4th Earl of Kent (1382-1408) and [[York-1252|Constance of York]] (c1374-1416).'Henry VI: January 1431', in Parliament Rolls of Medieval England, ed. [1] 1406 according to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmund_Holland,_4th_Earl_of_Kent Wikipedia]. Richardson's ''Magna Carta Ancestry'' (pp 76-77, #9 Thomas le Despenser, K.G., 5th Lord le Despenser) implies Eleanor's birth was closer to 1400:

"...Sir Thomas le Despenser, Earl of Gloucester, 5th Lord le Despenser, was beheaded at Bristol 16 Jan. 1399/1400, and was buried at Tewkesbury Abbey. Because of her kinship with the king, his widow, Constance, was treated with great generosity. She was granted the greater part of her husband's lands for life and given custody of their son and heir, Richard. About this time she was allegedly betrothed to marry Edmund Holand, K.G., 4th Earl of Kent, by whom she had a daughter, Eleanor Holand. ... It is doubtful that this betrothal, if valid, ever resulted in marriage. In Feb. 1405, Constance..." (p 77)

"... He [Edmund Holand] fought at the Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403. During this period, he was allegedly betrothed to marry Constance of York, widow of Thomas le Despenser.... They had one daughter, Eleanor. In 1405, ..." (p 500, #8 Edmund Holand, K.G., 4th Earl of Kent)

He married (2nd) '''ELEANOR HOLAND''', illegitimate daughter of Edmund Holand, K.G., Earl of Kent, by Constance, daughter of Edmund of Langley, K.G., Duke of York (5th son of King Edward III of England). They had three sons, Humphrey, Knt., Edmund [Bishop of Rochester, Bishop of Hereford, Bishop of Salisbury, Chancellor of the Order of the Garter], and Thomas, and three daughters, Margaret (wife of Richard Grey, Knt., Lord Powis [died 1466] and Roger Vaughan, Knt. [died 1471], Anne (wife of Richard Delabere, Knt.), and Constance. In 1431 Margaret, Duchess of Clarence, Joan, Duchess of York, and others petitioned Parliament complaining that Eleanor being illegitimate calls herself the "daughter and heir" of Edmund Holand. Eleanor brought action in Court Christian to disprove her bastardy, but lost her suit. SIR JAMES TUCHET (or AUDLEY), 5th Lord Audley, was defeated and slain at the Battle of Blore Heath, Shropshire 23 Sept. 1459, in command of the Lancastrian forces. * Douglas Richardson, ''[http://amzn.com/1461045207 Magna Carta Ancestry: A Study in Colonial and Medieval Families],'' Royal Ancestry series, 2nd edition, 4 vols., ed.
