John Fitzpen

(Abt 1380 - )

== Biography ==
The chronology of Saxon dominance over Cornwall and the Celtic people that lived there is unclear. It is thought that soon after the Norman conquest of 1066, most of the land was seized and transferred into the hands of a new Breton-Norman aristocracy. However, Norman absentee landlords were soon replaced by a new Cornu-Norman elite. These families eventually became the new ruling class of Cornwall, typically speaking Norman French, Cornish, Latin and eventually English.
“The name Phippen is patronymic, and is a corruption of Fitz-pen or Fils-pen, being a Norman prefix to an old British name. "Pen" signifies the head or top of something, whence the Pennine Alps and the Alpennies… There is an old couplet still common in Cornwall…
By Tre, Ros, Pol, Lan, Caer and Pen,
You may know the most of Cornish men."

John Fitzpen , born about 1380 in London, England, and Eleanor Tipping about 1380 in Cornwall, had a son Thomas.
