Biography
John was baptised 15 Jun 1566 in Deerhurst, Gloucestershire, England. His father's name was Thomas Smith."England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," familysearch, John Smithe, 15 Jun 1566, Deerhurst, Gloucester, England, father: Thomas Smithe, Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C02784-3, System Origin: England-ODM, GS Film number: 991281.

==Research Notes==John has previously been shown as son of Thomas Smith and Joan Alleyne. There is no evidence for this, and it is fairly clearly a misidentification. Thomas and Joan lived in Leicestershire, and their son, a different John, was an antiquarian and genealogist with entries in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography,Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, entry for 'Smyth, John (1567-1641)', print and online 2004, revised online 2008, available online via some libraries Dictionary of National Biography Dictionary of National Biography, 1885-1900, Vol. 53, p. 73, Wikisource and History of Parliament Online.History of Parliament Online, entry for SMITH (SMYTH), John (1567-1641), of Warrens Court, North Nibley, Glos. The parents-child relationship was clearly wrong and John has been detached.
