}William Forbes, 7th Lord of Forbes, was born about 1513 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was the eldest son of [[Forbes-185|John Forbes]] and his 2nd wife, [[Lundie-71|Christian Lundie]]. He had one older brother, [[Forbes-107 | John Forbes II]], b: ca. 1509. William and Elizabeth had a charter to the barony of Fiddes 4 Jan. 1538/9 and to the lands of Lare 5 Mar. 1539/0.(2)
After the execution of William's brother, John Forbes for treason in 1537, whereas their father was exonerated, King James V seems to have been anxious to compensate the family and so admitted the new heir, William into his favor. James gave William his disgraced brother's estates and in 1539 he appointed him one of the Gentlemen of his royal bedchamber. (3) William succeeded his father on the latter's death in 1547 as the 7th Lord Forbes. He had a charter as heir to his father to the barony of Forbes and Alford, 8 Aug. 1547.4)
William held a charter to Putachie Castle (given to his half-brother, Arthur in 1560) from the Earl of Huntly on 30 Nov. 1559 and from Queen Mary to Corsindae Castle, Aberdeenshire, and other lands on 20 June 1563 (5) which was confirmed 17 Sept. 1573. William had a charter of apprising to the lands of Bochrayn, 25 May 1579.(6)
