* Douglas's ''Peerage of Scotland'' (edited by Wood, Edinburgh, 1813) states: "Archibald 4th Earl of Douglas, had a daughter, Lady Helen, who married Alexander Lauder of Hatton" [sic]. Douglas/Wood is wrong here. It has to be the '''3rd''' Earl.
* Crawfurd's ''Peerage'' (p.91) describes the wife of Sir George Lauder of Haltoun, as Helen, sister to Lord Douglas.
* Stewart Smith states that the "first laird of Haltoun was Sir George de Lawedre who married a sister of Lord Douglas." Refer: ''The Grange of St.Giles'' , Edinburgh, 1898, p.251.
* ''The Royal Families of England, Scotland, and Wales, with their Descendants'' by John, and John Bernard Burke. London, 1848, Vol.1, Pedigree CCII.
* ''A History of the House of Douglas'' by Sir Herbert Maxwell, London, 1902, vol.1, p:124.
