He married Janet Kennedy, daughter of John Lord Kennedy on in 1498. The marriage was either never completely enacted or somehow ended as he married [[Stirling-926|Katherine Stirling]], daughter of Sir William Stirling, 2nd Laird of Keir and Margaret Crichton, on or about 1 June 1500. They separated or divorced in 1512.

Norman Macdougall in James IV covers the relationship between both Archibald Douglas and James IV and he's very clear that [[Kennedy-590|Janet Kennedy]] never married Archibald Douglas, both describing her as his mistress and explicitly saying they were not married.
