}
== Biography ==Engelberte was one of the younger daughters of [[Mark-590|Adolf III, Count of the Mark]], and Count of Cleves as Adolf I, and his wife, [[Jlich-14|Margarethe von Jülich]].Chestret, pp. 34-37 & 41. Her birth date is unknown, but given she didn't marry until 1399 (see below), an estimated date of 1385 seems reasonable.
Her father Adolf was in conflict with Friedrich von Saarwerden, Archbishop of Cologne, and as part of the peace negotiations in 1392, a marriage was arranged with one of Adolf's younger daughters, and Friedrich's nephew, Friedrich IV von Moers, later Count of Moers and Count of Saarwerden. The marriage was to take place within seven years.Chestret, p. 41 & note 4;Lacomblet, no. 975, pp. 864-65.
The original contract named Adolf's two youngest daughters Katharine and Irmgard (Ermengarde) as the possible bride,Lacomblet, no. 975, pp. 864-65. but another contract dated 1 November 1393 also named Engelbreche, (presumably Engelberte) as another possible bride.Lacomblet, no. 990, p. 878
It's not clear what happened to Katherine or Ermengarde, but it was Engelberte who married Friedrich IV von Moers in 1399.Chestret, p. 41. Her dowry of 10,000 gold florins (or guilders) was provided by her husband's uncle, the Archbishop of Cologne.Chestret, p. 41, note 4.;Friedrich IV. de.Wikipedia
