}James (or John) was an Illegitimate son of an unknown mistress of King James II of Scotland. He was born illegitimately between 1445 and 1460. He obtained the lands of Stix, near Dunkeld, from Patrick Cardney, of Stixs, on 11 December, 1486,

It clearly states the name as James Stewart of Sticks and Ballechin.But in the Peerage the apparently same Illegitimate son is refered to as John.

John (James) Stewart lived at Sticks, Scotland.

He died on 11 September 1523.

He married Muriel Sutherland. She was the widow of Thomas Oliphant, of Dron, who had d. in 1484.

He was the ancestor of the Steuarts of Arnagang, Ballechin, Innervack, Killichassie, the later Kynachins, Loch of Clunie and Stewartfield.
