John "Herries of Terregles" Herries
(1410 - Bef 17 May 1483)
== Biography ==
}John Herries was born in Scotland, probably in Terregles, in 1410. He was the successor to Herbert Herries upon Herbert's death in 1440. He was probably the son of Herbert and his wife Margaret Douglas.
John gave the lands of Myrton, Wigtownshire, to his uncle Robert Herries in 1444. In 1459, his next younger brother, Herbert, was appointed to be curator when John was declared "incompos mentis." John's son and heir, David, was appointed to replace Herbert as his father's curator in 1471. When son David was also deemed to be incompetent in 1478, David's son and heir, John, was appointed to be one of his grandfather John's curators.
John died between 1478 and May 17, 1483.} Pages 402-3
