Adam was born about 1465 probably eldest son of George Gordon earl of Huntly but being illegitimate like his brother William, also described as "filius carnali" neither were lawful heirs. Adam Gordon of Aboyne, later jure uxoris Earl of Sutherland (b. bef. 14 Oct 1474; d. 17 Mar 1537/8) He m. c. 1500 Elizabeth de Moravia, Countess of Sutherland.
