== Mary Boleyn == } : Mary's (c. 1499/1500 – 19 Jul 1543) sister was Ann Boleyn. She is also a direct descendant of Edward "Longshanks" I through their mother, Elizabeth Howard (1480-1539)[See photo of Edward I's descendants.]. Mary's date of birth has never been firmly established. But some historians claim she was Anne's younger sister, while her children believed she was the elder ... as do most historians today. : Rumored to have been a mistress of Francis I of France,[Claimed by the French king himself. Francois called her his "English mare."] she was mistress to Henry VIII, before Ann married the Tudor king. Although Henry obtained a papal dispensation, this affair would later be used to finish Ann Boleyn. It was rumored that Mary bore two of Henry VIII's children, but there is no proof and they were not acknowledged. : Mary Boleyn was married twice: in 1520 to Sir William Carey,[According to Alison Weir, Henry VIII may have been the one to arrange this marriage. Carey did quite well at court, but unexpectedly died from illness.] and secretly in 1534 to William Stafford, a soldier of good family but few prospects. This secret marriage to a man considered beneath her station angered both Henry VIII and her sister, Queen Anne, and resulted in Mary's banishment from the royal court; she spent the remainder of her life in obscurity. ===Links=== * Wikipedia: Mary Boleyn * Anthony Hoskins, Mary Boleyn's Carey Children - Offspring of King Henry VIII?. reprint from Genealogists' Magazine, Vol. 25 (March, 1997), No. 9.
