== Biography ==
: John Saunders 1275
==Research Notes==Various online genealogies connect John Alexander Saunders to a number of different members of the Montaigu family (or Montagu in the English spelling). The Montaigu's were branch line of the Capetien Dukes of Burgundy (Ducs de Bourgogne) who were themselves a branch line of the Capetien, Kings of France.
At least one Ancestry Family Tree has his parents as Alexandre de Montaigu, seigneur de Buxy-en-Chaunois, and his wife, Marguerite de Mont-Saint-Jean, but he died without any issue.Kerrebrouck, Patrick Van, ''Les Capetiens 987-1328'', Tome II in ''Nouvelle Histoire Genealogique de L'Auguste Maison de France'', Villeneuve d'Ascq, France, 2000.
Another has his father as Alexandre de Montaigu, sire de Sombernon (the nephew of the previous Alexandre de Montaigu) and either his first wife Agnès de Neuchâtel, or his second wife Agnès de Noyers, but although there were children with the second wife, none of them are named John (or even Jean) or Alexander/re.

Apart from the fact that there are no reliable sources connecting John Alexander Saunders to the French 'de Montaigu' noble family, there is also no explanation as to why a supposed Englishman would be the son of this family or why he would assume the name of Saunders rather than Montagu. Such as connection must be seen as someone's mistake that has then been repeated without any checking of sources.
