== Biography of Thomas Randolph, 1st Earl of Moray==
===Contention===[[Brus-106|Isobel Bruce]] is often recorded as having married Sir Thomas Randolph of Strathdon, Great Chamberlain to Alexander III, and to have been the mother by him of King Robert Bruce's faithful lieutenant Thomas Randolph, Earl of Moray; the person of this Profile. This is extremely unlikely to be correct and there is no proof for this assertion. It is discounted entirely by Sir James Balfour Paul in The Scots PeerageThe Scots Peerage, Sir James Balfour Paul, [https://archive.org/stream/scotspeeragefoun02pauluoft#page/432/mode/2up Vol 2, page 433] where he provides evidence to support his position. Randolph certainly seems likely, given his position in the Scottish Wars of Independence, to have married into the Bruce family but it is not clear to which lady. A number of sources suggest that the King's father Robert (1253–1304) married secondly, after 1292, a lady named Eleanor (died 1331) by whom he had a daughter, Isabel de Bruce, who married Thomas Randolph, Lord Chamberlain of Scotland
===Life===
Thomas Randolph, 1st Earl of Moray (died 20 July 1332) was Regent of Scotland, an important figure in the Wars of Scottish Independence, and is named second of those in whose names the Barons' Letter to Pope John XXII, commonly known as the Declaration of Arbroath, was sent.
