== Biography ==
John became Earl of Menteith upon his marriage to Mary, Countess of Monteith, which took place before May 1334.
Sir John was captured at the Battle of Neville's Cross on October 17, 1346 and imprisoned in the Tower of London. On the 22nd of February, 1346/7 he was condemned to be executed and the sentence was carried out on or before March 6th.
