*Sir Thomas de Somerville was the son of Sir William de Somerville. He married, firstly, Janet Stewart, daughter of Sir Alexander Stewart of Darnley. He died in December 1444.*He lived at Linton, Roxburghshire, Scotland.2 He lived at Carnwarth, Lanarkshire, Scotland. In 1423 he was an ambassador to London to treat for the ransom of James I, King of Scotland.

== Research notes ==''Scots Peerage'' provides that he had a wife Mary/Marie, daughter of [[Sinclair-201| Henry Sinclair]], 1st Earl of Orkney, and makes no mention of [[Keith-230|Elizabeth Keith]]::"1407, Lord Thomas married Lady Marie Sinclair, daughter of Henry Earl of Orkney and of Roslyn Castle, with whom he lived happily for twenty-seven years. Afther his marriage he retired from Court for a time.:"Lady 'Marie Sinclair' was the second wife of Thomas, 1st Lord Somerville, to whom he was married in 1407. We find he was previously married in 1392 to [[Stewart-1535|Janet]], a daughter and co-heiress of [[Stewart-1532|Sir Alexander Stewart,]] Lor Darnley, who brought with her, as dowry, a large portion of lands in the barony of Cambusnethan, which, when added to those already in the possession of the Somerville family in Cambusnethan, made a very large and rich inheritance.:"On the occasion of this marriage, King Robert III granted a charter of Confirmation in these lands in favour of 'Thomas Somerville and Janet Stewart, his spouse, and the longest liver of them.'
