== Biography ==Nigel de Brus was born c. 1279 in Carrick, Ayrshire, Scotland. He was son of Robert de Brus, 6th Lord of Annandale and Margaret, Countess Of Carrick, and younger brother of Robert the Bruce. He was a supporter of his brother and fought in the Wars of Scottish Independence.
In 1306 he and his garrison were protecting Kildrummy Castle from Edward's English forces, who were seeking Robert the Bruce's wife Elizabeth, daughter Marjorie, sisters Mary and Christina, and Isabella MacDuff, Countess of Buchan. The women managed to escape, but were later betrayed by William, 3rd Earl of Ross. The English forces captured Nigel, and he was executed for high treason (hanged, drawn, quartered) in September 1306 at Berwick-upon-Tweed[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_de_Brus Nigel de Brus on Wikipedia].
