---Walter, sixth High Stewart of Scotland, was born in 1292. In conjuction with Sir '''James Douglas''' he commanded one of the divisions of the Scottish army at Bannockburn in 1314, and in the following year received from King Robert I he had of his daughter the Lady Marjorie, in marriage. He took part in all the principal episodes in the War of Independence against Edward II, notable in the defense of Berwick agains a great English army, and acted as Regent of Scotland during King Robert's absence in Ireland. He died on 9 April 1326 at the early age of thirty-three. According to '''Douglas''' he married, as his first wife, Alice, daughter of Sir John Erskine, by whom he had a daughter Jean, married to Hugh, Earl Of Ross, '''but there is no proof of this,''' and Hugh, Earl Of Ross, married a sister of King Robert Bruce.
The Stewart's first wife, so far as recorded, was the Lady Marjorie Bruce, by whom he had an only child.
He married, secondly, Isabel, sister of Sir John Graham of Abercorn, by whom he had two sons and a daughter.
