== Biography ==
}}}Ranald [Reginald], was the progenitor of MacDonald of Clanranald and also Clan MacDonell of Glengarry. He inherited the MacRuari lands from his mother.
He was married to a daughter of Walter Stewart, Earl of Atholl. He had five sons though perhaps not all through his wife. Three of his sons formed major branches of the Clanranald as follows:
From [[MacDonald-1508|Allan MacDonald]], 2nd of Clanranald, and Laird of Moidart.
From [[MacDonald-1509|Donald MacDonald]], House of Glengarry.
From [[MacDonald-1519|Dougall MacDonald]], ancestor of the ''Siol Dhughall''.
Ranald is buried at Relig Odhráin on Iona. He was succeeded by his eldest son, Allan.
