(Bef 1153 - Abt 1207)

}
Biography
Ragnall is the son of Somerled Macgillibride and Ragnhilda Olafsdatter.

Variation of Name
Ragnall, Raghnall, Ragnvald son of Somerled, Rognvald, Reginaldi filii Sorleti, Reginald or RanaldPoMS, no. 6562 (http://db.poms.ac.uk/record/person/6562; accessed 5 March 2017)

Titles
King of the Isles, lord of Kintyre, lord of Argyll, Lord of the Isles, dominus de Inchegal, lord of Innse Gall, PoMS, no. 6562 (http://db.poms.ac.uk/record/person/6562; accessed 5 March 2017)

=== Birth ===The time of Ragnall's birth is not known. He was probably born in Argyll but this is not certain. His father, Somerled Macgillebride, (killed in battle in 1164), is first mentioned in records in 1153, then styled 'regulus' of Argyll, when he rebelled against King Malcolm IV. PoMS, no. 337 (http://db.poms.ac.uk/record/person/337/#; accessed 5 March 2017) As Somerled had already established himself as king by 1153 it is likely that his children were already born prior to that time.

=== Death === Ragnall was defeated by his brother Angus in 1192.FMG, Lords of the Isles From then on he seems to all but disappear from the records. Some reference to 'circa 1207' is givenPoMS, no. 337 (http://db.poms.ac.uk/record/person/337/#; accessed 5 March 2017) but he may have lived well beyond that point.

Marriage
Ragnall was married to "Fonia _____"[Fonie_____].FMG, Lords of the IslesPoMS, 3/30/3 (Pais. Reg., 125 (http://db.poms.ac.uk/record/source/2685; accessed 5 March 2017) While it is claimed here that Fonia was of the house of Moray there is no evidence to corroborate this. For more on her possible origins refer to the Wikipedia article on Ragnall mac Somairle - Family and legacy. (2017, February 18).

Children
According to the Foundation for Medieval GenealogyFMG, Lords of the Isles Ragnall & Fonia had three children: Donald (Domnall), Roderick (Ruari) and an unnamed daughter married to Alan Lord of Galloway.These two sons are confirmed by PoMS, The Peerage, and the Chronicles of Mann - The Somerledian Line

:Ruairi mac Raghnaill (abt. 1172 - abt. 1247):[[Isle-3|daughter [Helen?] of Reginald Lord of the Isles]] (-before 1209)

=== Children with unproven parentage ===:While the following children are presently identified as offspring of Ragnall & Fonia there is a distinct lack of evidence to corroborate these claims. Additional proof is required.
