== Biography ==
Hector was the son of [[MacLean-333|Lachlan MacLean]] and [[MacDonald-1120|Mary MacDonald]]. He was killed at the battle of Harlaw when he fought Alexander Irvine of Drum. He is known by the nickname as ''Eachuinn Ruadh nan Cath'' (Red Hector of the battles).''The Clan Gillean'', p. 53.
Hector may have married Mor Campbell in 1391, daughter of Colin despite a close relationship. It is also said that he married a daughter of the Earl of Douglas. If this is so he was likely born before 1370.
