James DILLARD of Laurens Co.,SC

(Abt 1755 - 1836)

He received the original Dillard land grant in SC in the Laurens District on the south side of the Enoree River 12-Aug-1784 from Gov. Benjamin Gulard. The tract passed through his son James to Samuel and thence to Samuel's daughter Sarah. He made a succession of enlistments, finally ending up as a captain in the SC militia during the Revolution. He fought at Sullivan's Is (Ft. Moultrie), the Florida Expedition, Kings Mt., Williams Ft., Cowpens, Bush River, Seige of 96, and Battle of Edisto River. He was wounded at Cowpens and Edisto.
