Obituary:
Rufus Stephens, age 93, of Dinwood Road, Martin, husband of the late Ada Ousley Stephens, passed away, Sunday, December 21, 2003, in the Riverview Health Care Center, Prestonsburg. He was born June 12, 1910, in Risner, the son of the late Thomas TW Stephens and Mary Tussey Stephens. He was a retired coal miner, having devoted 48 years in the mines, where he worked at Stephens Branch/Elkhorn Coal Branch Co., Spurlock, Buckingham, and Island Creek Coal Companies. Survivors include one daughter, Eula Mae Sizemore of Martin; two brothers: Rubin Stephens and Ed Stephens, both of Prestonsburg; three sisters: Dorthy Reffitt of Princeton, Indiana, Alice Prater of Pyramid, and Alvie Ousley of Prestonsburg; three grandchildren: Steven Terry Sizemore, Robert Bobby Sizemore, and John Sizemore; six great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Dane, Morgan, Ashton, Toria and Caleb Sizemore. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Sam, Darb, and Curtis Stephens. Funeral services for Rufus Stephens were conducted Tuesday, December 23, at 11 am., in the Hall Funeral Home, Martin. Burial was in the Dingus Cemetery, at Dinwood, Martin, under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home. Visitation was at the funeral home.
