GADSDEN, Ala. — Helen Prater, 84, passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, at her home.
Mrs. Prater was a native of Louisiana and had been a resident of Gadsden for the past 48 years. She was Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm L. Prater. Mrs. Prater had a love for nature and gardening. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Ericka Prater (Jack) Blaylock of Gadsden; grandchildren, Malcolm Eric (Locksley) Blaylock of Denver, Colo., and Matthew Lantz (Wendy) Blaylock of Birmingham, Ala.; greatgranddaughter, Elizabeth Blaylock of Birmingham; brothers, Jerry (Marlene) Hillebrandt and Andrew (Evelyn) Hillebrandt; sisters, June Ward and Katie Johnson, all of Lake Charles; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity or the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org/honor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Collier-Butler Funeral Home of Gadsden.
