Audrey Bishop Prater, 92, of Lake Charles, died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in a Lafayette hospital.
Mrs. Prater was a native of the Readheimer Community near Chestnut in northern Natchitoches Parish in Louisiana. She graduated from Readheimer High School and from Northwestern University (formerly Louisiana Normal) in Natchitoches. She was a teacher for 30 years in Natchitoches, Ascension and Calcasieu parishes. Mrs. Prater was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teacher’s Association and Calcasieu-Cameron Teachers’ Association. She was active in the Lake Charles Porcelain Art Guild and the Louisiana Organization of Porcelain Art Clubs. After retirement, she enjoyed painting classes with Jerry Wright and Ruth Lindsey. For many years she was an active member of the Colonel Ware Sunday School Class in the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed being a member of United Methodist Women. Mrs. Prater has lived in Lake Charles for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Prater is survived by two daughters, Annette Tucker and her husband, Ronnie, Audette Tucker and her husband, Roger; grandchildren, Patrick Tucker and fiancee, Jamie Stark, Jessica Tucker and fiance, Kade Savant, Byron Tucker and Adrianne Tucker; one greatgrandchild, Kelsie Blair Tucker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas J. Prater.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Ted Stanley will officiate. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday in the funeral home.
