Mary Etta Sullivan Prater, 95, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, in a Dallas care center.
Mary graduated from St. Patrick School of Nursing and worked over 40 years as a registered nurse. She was born in St. Tammany Parish on June 17, 1910, to Henry Sullivan and Addie Cutrer Sullivan.
She was preceded in death in 1970 by her husband, Charles Ferdinand Prater, a deputy sheriff in Calcasieu Parish. Mary is survived by one sister, Margaret Cessford of Katy, Texas; one daughter, Charlotte Prater of San Jose, Calif.; sons, Huey Prater and wife, Zita, of Dallas, Fritz Prater and wife, Judy, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Albert Prater and wife, Carole, of Lake Charles, John Wendell Prater and wife, Melba, of Baton Rouge, and Wayne Prater and wife, Nell, of Kinder; grandchildren, Nansea Levy, Vickie Maehl, Kirk Maehl and wife, Julie, Pamela Prater, Darryl Prater and wife, Lisa, Tracey Graff and husband, John, Daniel Prater, David Prater and wife, Brenda, Scott Prater and wife, Gwen, Steven Prater, Kay Lyn Prater, Wendi Prater, Michael Prater and wife, Amy, Tammie Kubelka and husband, Kris, Troy Prater and wife, Leslie, and Robert Bertrand and wife, Jacqueline; great-grandchildren, Rabia Levy, Josh Levy, Sean Maehl, Sadie Prater, Megan Prater, Brian Prater, Lindsey Graff, Andrew Graff, Matthew Graff, Rachel Prater, Peggy Prater, Colin Prater, Caroline Travis, Brittany Travis, Denise Prater, Matthew Prater, Lindsay Prater, Conner Kubelka, Megan Prater, Jonathan Bertrand, Damian Bertrand, Travis Bertrand, Brittany Bertrand, Juvencio Bertrand, Matthew Bertrand and Joli Bertrand.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, in Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. The Rev. Bruce Butts will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the funeral home. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.mem.com.
