Sue Lea "Sallie" Herline

MOSS BLUFF — Sulie Herline Ball was born on Aug. 20, 1914, in Dayton, Texas, and went to her heavenly home on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, surrounded by family and friends. She married her sweetheart, Willard Ball, on May 22, 1937, and lived in the Topsy area until her death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, Achsah Gail Ball Berryman and Sandra Ball LeBlanc and husband Robert, all of Moss Bluff, Judith Ball Iglehart and husband Arlin of Lake Charles, and Beverly Ball Skiles and husband Mike of New Iberia; two brothers, Cecil Herline of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Richard Herline of Yuma, Ariz.; and her loving grandchildren, Mark Hooper of Moss Bluff, Melanie Hooper Marchand of San Antonio, Texas, Suzanne Hooper Price of Sulphur, Janie Berryman Martin of Kingston Springs, Tenn., David Berryman of Durham, Maine, Lisa LeBlanc of Singapore, Robert LeBlanc II of Plano, Texas, Michelle Skiles Brignac of Denham Springs, La., Monica Skiles of New Iberia and Marla Skiles Nichols of Iowa. She was loved and cherished by her 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Alexander Herline and Marjorie Mathews Herline; five brothers, Joe, Cleo, Ernest, Thomas and Carl Herline; one sister, Bernice Herline Powell; and one loving granddaughter, Cynthia LeBlanc Hardeman.
She was a news correspondent for the Lake Charles American Press, the Westlaker and the Carey Baptist Association. The family home was used as a polling place for Jeff Davis Parish elections for more than 80 years.
Sulie will be remembered for her love for the Lord, family and friends. She was known for her hospitality, excellent cooking and her sense of humor. She enjoyed reading her Bible, working in her garden, playing dominoes, working crossword puzzles and fishing. She was a founding member of Topsy Baptist Church and a former member of Gillis Baptist Church.
A celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in First Baptist Church of Gillis. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today in Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff and from 9 a.m. Monday in the church. Burial will be in Ritchie Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Topsy Baptist Building Fund, Dry Creek Baptist Encampment or Gideons International.
