Obit: Tue, 19 Feb 2002 from the Austin American-Statesman : John M. PATE, age 61, of Austin, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2002.
Mr. Pate was born January 14, 1941, in Wilbarger County, Texas, and had resided in Ft. Worth for many years. He had been a resident of Austin for 32 years where he was the owner and operator of John Pate Construction, Inc.
He was a member of Lake Travis Church of Christ.
John was a loving husband, father and PawPaw, as well as a great friend. He was very active in community organizations. He was a founding member of the Lake Travis Youth Association; former board member of the Dripping Springs ISD; former Hudson Bend Volunteer Firefighter; former member of the Lions Club of Lake Travis and past president of the Apache Shores Property Owners Association.
He is survived by his wife, Melvaree Pate, of Austin; sons, J. Marc Pate III and wife, Debbie, of Austin; Jason and wife, Mandy, of Houston; daughters, Julie Johnson and husband, Bill, of Austin, and Stephanie Pate, of Austin; grandchildren, Marcus, Jacob, Seth, Jillian, Holly, Ruby Jane, Claire, Melvaree Nicole; mother-in-law, Avanell Prater, of Ft. Worth; sister, Helen Long, of Dallas; nephew, Nicky Paskos, of Austin; as well as loyal employees.
There will be a visitation with the family from 7:00 until 9:00 pm, Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted by Dan Hardin of the Lake Travis Church of Christ at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 20, 2002, in the Colonial Chapel of the Cook-Walden. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
