Daddy was introduced to mother Sylvia by Uncle Frank in Brice Tx. They were married in Heneryetta, Ok. They latter lived in Estiline Tx. In the 1940's they moved to Smithfield Tx. about one south of what is now Davis Blvd. and Hwy 1709. I was born while living there. We moved from there to what we called the Thompson Place when I was in the first grade. Bear Creek crosses under Davis Blvd. We live about a half mile south on the west side. The old house is still standing although run down. This area of land was given to Thomas Jefferson Thompson as a grant for fighting in the Texas Reveloution at San Jucinto. Uncle Bill (Philip White) lived across the road from us.
I remember Daddy delivering ice before I was old enough to go to school. Later he and Uncle Horace worked at the Bommer Plant. Daddy did not like it and became a carpenter. Uncle Hoarce stayed and latter retired there. Daddy was not much of a carpenter then. He said that when he first started he would tell his boss that he could do it all. He worked one day and was fired. The next few jobs he would last maybe two days then a week. Finally he lasted a month on a job. As he began to learn he would finally go the whole job. He eventually became a very good carpenter. He worked all over Dallas and Ft. Worth including Texas Stadium. He build the last houses he and mother lived in at Keller, Smithfield and Krum. He was in the Carpenter Union in Ft. Worth. He passed away playing checkers at the union hall. His favorite games were dominoes and checkers.
