Dickey of Flemingsborg, Kentucky, an intimate friend of the Prather family says the family was well-to-do and of high type character and the people came from miles around to attend Walter's funeral. Afte her husgand's death, Mrs. Prather and children continued on the farm until 1873 when the older boys went west and located in Buchanan County, Missouri at DeKalb. The mother and younger son Walter went to Illinois to be with the daughter Martha who lived at Tuscola, Ill. The daughter, Adeline Boyle was nurse for the younger Prather children and was living in 1913.
