John HAMMONS

John owned quite a bit of land. He had a grist mill and a still where he made whiskey and peach brandy. John surveyed for roads on his property, building the roads with his slave labor. What is now only creeks used to be bigrivers and John (and others) ran rafts on them for shipping and traveling. John gave land for White Oaks Christian Church in 1832.
