Jesse William Prather HARRIS

Jessie and two other boys were swimming in the river when the older of the three began picking on the youngest one and a fight took place between them. The older boy drowned the younger one. When the sheriff investigated Jessie told them what had happened.
The older boy was arrested. The father of the boy went to farm home where Jessie lived and came after him carrying a pistol ... Jessie ran into the house and got his fathers rife and shot the man. I am not clear if the man was killed or not but as the story continues; The sheriff found the shooting a just one and did not arrest Jessie. But he told Jessie that he could not protect him from this family and that they were out to kill him and it would be best if he left. So, Jessie moved into Southeastern Okla. where his mothers relatives lived and assumed the name of his mother. -- Gary Prather
