This Thomas is shown in 1860 living next door in Smyth Co., VA to Lilburn Prater. Could he instead be the brother to Lilburn's father John. Currently, the relationship is of 2nd cousins, rather than uncle/nephew. Do we have the construction of this line wrong? One red flag is that the 1850 & 1870 Censuses would have Thomas born c.1810, which would have been chronologically difficult if his mother Nancy Hutton was born c.1800. A second red flge is that regardless of whether you set his birth year at 1805 or 1810, both are prior to the marriage of his parents -- not unheard of in that day, but certainly a question.
