From gravestone; obituary; MO Division of Health Death Certificate St. Francois County #2809.Hubert Dale Prather was one of three boys killed when the St. Joe Powder House exploded in Desloge. The other two boys were Lem Thomas Webb and Leeman Bryan Webb, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Webb. A lengthy news account of the event appeared on page 1 of the Jan. 9, 1953 edition of The Lead Belt News: "DESLOGE BLAST TOOK LIVES OF THREE YOUNG BOYS; ROCKS NEIGHBORHOOD; DYNAMITE CAPS SCATTERED."
