(15 May 1752 - 18 Aug 1818)
One of the first settlers of Laurens Co., SC
Placing James (spouse Hannah) as a son of James and Eleanor is very indirect and certainly not conclusive. The first piece of evidence comes from the signers of the 1780 Williams Petition, where a James, son of James is listed. It is reasonable to think that signers of the petition would have been at least 16 years of age and therefore born by 1764 or before. James Adair, son of Joseph Adair, Sr., cooper, was born 1747 and would have been age 17 in 1764, hardly of an age to have had a son, James, born in 1764 or before. In 1780, there is no record of a James Adair, other than James Adair, Sr., cooper, who was living in the Duncan Creek area and was old enough to have had a son, James, born 1764 or before. -- Lee Adair, 14 May 2002
