Individual Details

Joseph Jeremiah PRATHER

(4 Jun 1762 - Bef 1 Jul 1816)

He was born probably at Prather,GA. Prather, Ga. got its name much later when the Elberton & Eastern Railroad listed the Prather Plantation as a cotton stop on it route maps, thus the settlement of Prather, Ga. began. The only thing left at Prather, Ga. is a few scattered houses ..... not even a sign to indicate that it is the old settlement of Prather. Joseph J. Prather brought his family to Wilkes Cty., GA from MD in 1792 (letter from Joseph Prather).

Joseph J. Prather's son, Thomas, and son-in-law, James Burdett, were securities for his estate. Sons James Wallace Prather and Joseph W. Prather were executors (Minutes of the Inferior Court, page 131, Will of Joseph Prather). William Prather and Benejah Prather were underage and chose their mother, Elizabeth Welsh Prather, as their guardian (ibid. p.136).
