Notes
Death
Katherina Young, daughter of Conrad Decker and his wife Anna Mary Zebb, was born on the 29th of December, 1847, in Kusterdingen, Wuerttemberg, Germany, and by the washing of regeneration was given over into the ever loving arms of the Savior. In her 21st year she came to this country with hr parents and made her abode in Williams County, Ohio, to the day of her death. In the year 1871 she gave her heart and hand to Martin Young, who had lost his wife and was left with 5 children. To these children she endeavored to be a dutiful mother.Out of the union with Martin Young, 8 children came forth, of which 5 preceded their mother to the land of glory, whilst 3 children, 2 sons, and one daughter are fulfilling their last sad duty toward their mother today.
In the years of her wedded life with her husband, she has seen many days of which we are ready to say, they please us not. The husband was an invalid for a great number of years, and needed much care. Many deaths, some 12, occurred in the house in the course of years. So there was labor and toil, but also tribulation and woe enough to try her faith and submissiveness to the utmost.
But the hardest trial was yet to come. A few months ago dropsy developed and verily dreary and long were the hours which she had pass in her chair, as she was unable to remain in bed. At last, when dropsy had almost entirely vanished, a heavy cold settled in her throat and lungs, so that she was in unspeakable misery. But God had pity with her. On Thursday evening, November 14, at about 10 o'clock, her soul took flight from her weary body, and we doubt not in the least she is well taken of in the arms of her Savior. Of near relatives, there are 3 children, 2 step-children, 3 sisters, Mrs. Keiser, Mrs. Ruff and Mrs. Kuttler, and 8 grandchildren. The days of her pilgrimage numbered 60 years, 10 months and 16 days.
