Irene Kantakuzena

(Abt 1400 - 1457)

Eirene (Jerina) was born about 1400, the daughter of Theodorus Palaiologos Kantakuzenos and Euphrosyne Palaiologina. Eirene and her relations are named in _Dell'Imperadori Constantinopolitani,_ a manuscript held in the Vatican Library. The document is also known as the 'Massarelli manuscript' because it was found in the papers of Angelo Massarelli (1510-1566), better known as the general secretary of the Council of Trent, who recorded the daily events of the council.

About 26 December 1414 Eirene married Djuradj Vukovic Brankovic, despot and magnate of Serbia, son of Vuk Brankovic, knez of Raska-Kosovo, and Mara Lazarevic. They had at least six children of whom Stephan and Lazar would have progeny.

Eirene died at Rudnik on 3 May 1457.
