Zedlitz, Baron Joseph Christian von, b. Castle of Johannisberg near Javorniky (Czech Republic), Feb. 28, 1790, d. Vienna, March 16, 1862, writer and army officer. Friend of the young Joseph von Eichendorff; employed at the State Chancellery from 1838-1848; wrote patriotic poetry ("Die nächtliche Meerschau") in the Romantic tradition; his dramatic works comprised mainly tragedies ("Herr und Sclave", 1831).
