He was a Privy Councillor to the Emperor and received the Order of the Golden Fleece. In his castle of Lowdorf in Lower-Austria, he owned many precious pictures. He was the father of thirteen children; his eldest son, Franz Josef, became the next ruling Prince of Liechtenstein after Emanuel's elder brother died. For his second son, Karl, he obtained the majorat of Krumau.
