Fernán Álvarez de Toledo, I Count de Alba et Tormes

(Est 1400 - 23 Apr 1464)

Fernán was the son of Garcia Alvarez de Toledo, 3.seńor de Valdecorneia, and Constanza Ruiz de Sarmiento y Guzmán. In 1438 he became count of Alba de Tormes. This title was different from previous Castilian titles, both because it was hereditary, and because the estate of Alba was not part of the royal patrimony; as a private estate, a _seńorio_, it was outside the royal jurisdiction.

On 20 October 1440 Fernán married Dońa Mencia/Maria Palomeque Carrillo, seńora del Estado y Villa de Bercimuelle, daughter of Pedro Carrillo de Toledo, seńor de Bolańos, and Elvira Palomeque. They had a son Garcia who would have progeny.

In 1449 Don Alvaro de Luna persuaded Juan II, king of Castile to imprison five nobles, including Fernán. In 1453 the king ordered the execution of Don Alvaro de Luna but still refused to release Fernán. He was finally released in the reign of the next king, Enrique IV. He died in Cordoba on 23 April 1464.
