Marx "Marcus" Fugger
(14 Feb 1529 - 18 Apr 1597)
Marcus was born on 14 February 1529, the son of Anton Fugger and Anna Rehlinger von Borgau. On 1 March 1557 in Augsburg he married Gräfin Sibylla von Eberstein, daughter of Wilhelm, Graf von Eberstein, and Gräfin Johanna von Hanau-Lichtenberg. They had fourteen children of whom four sons and a daughter would have progeny. From 1560 he ran the Fugger business interests together with his fist cousin Johann Jakob, son of his uncle Raymund Fugger, Graf von Kirchberg und Weissenhorn.
Marcus was mayor (Stadtpfleger) of the city of Augsburg from 1576 to 1585. He was also the author of a book on horse breeding, _Wie und wo man ein Gestüt von gute edeln Kriegsrossen aufrichten soll_ (1578), and of a German translation of the _Historia ecclesiastica_ of Nicephorus Callistus. He founded the Nordendorf branch of the family, which became extinct on the death of his grandson Nicolaus in 1676. Marcus died in Augsburg on 18 April 1597.
