LeROY F. HESS, 82, of 18-S Grant St., Waynesboro, died at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, in York Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past year and was critically ill since Dec. 31, 1996.Born May 26, 1914, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Fred and Harriet W. "Hallie" (Goetz) Hess. He lived all his life in Waynesboro.Mr. Hess graduate from Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1932.He was employed as a machinist with Landis Tool Co. for more than 50 years prior to his retirement in 1978.Mr. Hess was a member of the former First Christian Church, Waynesboro.He was a member of the Eagles Club Inc., Order of Owls Nest 1073 and Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, all of Waynesboro.He is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Simpson of Chambersburg and Rose Mary Fuss of Waynesboro two sons, Ronald L. Hess and Gregory D. Hess, both of Waynesboro, four sisters, Evelyn Heefner of Stockton, Calif., Glovelia Williams and Shirley Hovis, both of Waynesboro, and Rodetta Nulle of Burlingame, Calif., 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.Mr. Hess was preceded in death by three brothers, James Hess, Preston Hess and Fred Hess, Jr.Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with Pastor Roger K. Myers officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 452 E.
