Death

Joann Armantrout, 94, Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2023. Joann was born on April 30, 1929, in Muncie, IN to Donn Hauck and Olive (Bechtel) Hauck. Both parents preceded her in death.
Joann graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Armantrout, following his graduation from Purdue University. Joann and Jack celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on June 6, 2023.
After business school in Muncie, Joan worked at Merchants Bank as secretary to the president for 6 years. She was an active member and held many offices of WONARD, Women’s Organization of the National Association of Retail Druggist, which raised money for pharmacy students.
Joann loved attending professional baseball games at McCulloch Park, in Muncie, with her then boyfriend, Jack. She and Jack were big Muncie Central Bearcat basketball fans and attended many games throughout the years. Joann also enjoyed watching the Colts and Purdue football and basketball.
Joann was happiest taking care of her family. She was known and admired for her love of family and friends, always putting them ahead of herself. Her passions included keeping a beautiful home, baking fabulous desserts, and planting flowers in the summertime.
Throughout their marriage, Jack and Joann enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Florida, South Carolina, Hawaii, and went on several cruises. Joann was the matriarch of our family and always made the holidays special.
Joann is survived by her daughter, Karen Elliott and her son, Dan (Jill) Armantrout. She has five grandchildren: Doug Armantrout, Kristin Mitchner, Kate Elliott, Zach Elliott, and Minna Muhl. Joann was lucky enough to have 5 great-grandchildren as well, including: Isla, Knox, and Jack Armantrout and Steve and Camden Mitchner. Her 6th great-grandchild will arrive very soon and will be named Olive, after Joann’s mother.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, July 12 at Flanner-Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, with calling beginning there at 12:00pm.
