Frederick Beck

Mr. Beck has a bronze military marker indicating that he served in Co. G, 4th Iowa Infantry, but there was no one by that name in that Company or Regiment and there is no mention of Civil War Service in his obit. He did register for the Civil War draft in Ringgold County, but nothing further has been found for him. BECK. He was taken sick Sunday with pneumonia and grip and gradually grew worse until the end came.FREDERICK BECK was born in Pike County, Ohio, Aug. 27, l827, and departed this life Dec. 5, l90l, aged 74 years, 3 months and 8 days. The deceased was married to CATHARINE BUMGARNER, Jan. 22, l85l. To this union came eight children, two of these dying in infancy, leaving sixchildren--five sons and one daughter to realize the loss of a father's care. The family came to Iowa in l855, locating in Muscatine County. In l860 they came to Ringgold County and have since resided here. Since the death of his companion Feb. 20, l897, he has made his home with his sons, C.W. and J.J. BECK. Deafness deprived him of many of the pleasures that others enjoy, but being very ambitious and a great reader, he spent many hours quite contentedly.The funeral services were conducted from the M.E. Church at l0 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, by Rev. C.E.
