John Gunnell, 84, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2007, in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born October 1, 1922 in Chicago, IL, the son of Burgess and Maude Gunnell. John was a veteran and served in the US Army during WWII. Resident of Elgin since 1942, John was a sheet metal mechanic for 41 years prior to retirement. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with family. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Lyravene "Sis" Gunnell, whom he married on December 19, 1942; his two daughters, Virginia (Robert) Newquist, of Elgin and Nancy Cain, of Huntley, IL; five grandchildren, Steve (Kelly) and Joanna Kadlec, Brian (Erica) and Patrick Cain, and Jamie (Gary) Stofcheck; four great-grandchildren; Cameron, Benjamin, Morgan and Nick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; three brothers; and son-in-law, James Cain.

Services and burial will be private. Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
