Novak, 70, of 307 Niles St., LaPorte, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at 11:45 p.m. at his home.He was born May 12, 1932, in Michigan City, to Carl and Mary (Sopko) Novak, and had lived all his life in LaPorte County.Mr. Novak was an electrician at Bethlehem Steel for 23 years. After retirement from Bethlehem Steel, he became a small business owner and opened Poly Clean Center in LaPorte. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He was a volunteer firefighter for Springfield Township and was a founding member of the Star Rights Square Dance Club.On Nov. 28, 1953, in Michigan City, he married Carol L. Snow, who survives.Also surviving are two daughters, Karen of Phoenix and Rebecca of South Bend; one son, Peter of LaPorte; one granddaughter, Ayriel of LaPorte; two grandsons, Joe Marvel and Terry Marvel, both of Phoenix; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Hope Marvel of Phoenix; four sisters, Nancy Grimm and Mary Margaret Manzuk, both of Rolling Prairie, Elsie Miceli of Roselle, Ill., and Dorothy Snow of Savanna, Ill.; and three brothers, Charles and Joseph, both of Michigan City and James of Niles, Mich.He was preceded in death by his parents.A Mass will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church with Rev. George Vrabely officiating. Friends may call Sunday at Haverstock Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., and Monday from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to VNA of LaPorte County.
