Golz, 97, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at St. Anthony's Care Center, Rock Island.A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a rosary recited at 3 p.m. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military honors by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to Woman's Choice Center, Bettendorf or St. Pius X Catholic Church.Mr. Golz was born on Dec. 29, 1913, in Maywood, Ill., the son of Albert O. and Jessie M. Ruff Golz. He married the love of his life, Mary M. Pfeifer on Dec. 11, 1943, in Maywood. She preceded him in death on March 15, 1991.He was a World War II Army veteran.Herbert was employed at Bituminous Insurance Company for 41 years, last as vice president of underwriting and analysis. He was honored with a plaque from his peers reading "Small enough to know you big enough to serve you."Mr. Golz was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church since 1959 and a past member of Knights of Columbus.Herbert loved his family, had a strong faith in the Catholic Church and enjoyed working in his yard and vegetable garden.Survivors include his children and their spouses, Jim Golz (Cathy Brown), Coal Valley, Judy (Tim) Schrader, Greg (Jan) Golz, Patty (Dan) Strang, Eileen Cloninger, Ed (Debi) Golz, Maureen (Ric) Fiebig, all of Rock Island; grandchildren, Jon, Chrissy, Nick, Paul, Anna, Mark, Katie, Zach, Shawn, Jessie, Kyle; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis T.
